10 Cities With Affordable Rent

TIK TOK, TIK TOK. no not the clock the app. I’m on there so much that I have to put a timer on my phone, so that It doesn’t entirely consume my day. Does that resonate with you? I mean Tiktok has everything. You can learn how to season those dry a** burgers you’ve been making, and even learn how to change the oil that makes your car sound like 10 Walmart trucks hauling a load of furniture. While scrolling through the app, I frequently see videos that go like this “How can someone afford rent, when you have to submit proof that you make 3x the rent?”. Well guess what? you can. You just have to know where to look. You can use the bifocals Steve Urcle had in Family Matters. I also have the suspenders and the tap dancing shoes here for you, in case you need them for halloween. There are several advantages to living in a city (or suburb) with a low cost of rent. You can save money, while still having access to the things you love to do. You can do this while not having to work your a** off to stay there. You could also use the money you save to travel, and eventually purchase a home. Maybe live humble now, so you can flex a little bit later? *wink wink. Sound like something you’re interested in? Well…here’s my list of ten cities with affordable rent for 2023.

  1. Wichita, KS

Exploration Place in Wichita, Kansas

Dirt roads, dump trucks, and cargo shorts. Nah i’m just playing. We’re starting off with a city that isn’t talked about much. This a great thing because low popularity equals low cost. Plus nobody wants to live around yellow license plates, beeping horns, and people cursing out of the window because you didn’t drive after a split second of the light being green. You can save a sh** ton of money living here. When you tell people the amount of money you spend on rent, their eyes will fall out of their head. I have one eye that’s bigger than the other one, so I don’t even have to get a costume for halloween. Wichita, Kansas is located in the midwest, and has some of the cheapest rent in the country. The median rent is about $811, according to rentcafe.com. This is a steal, considering that the current median rent in the U.S. currently sits at a whopping $1,942 (Come on America get it together now). Some of the best areas to live in the city are College Hill, Courtland, Crown Heights, and Village. According to bestplaces.net, Wichita houses major corporations, such as Koch Industries and Spirit AeroSystems. The city has a vibrant array of small businesses, such as Old Mill Tasty Shop, Cheezies Pizza, and Great Image Designs. You could score a 1-bed apartment in Downtown Wichita for around $900 a month, with amenities like a gym, dog park, and work-from-home spaces. Wichita is a solid option for those who want a low cost of living, easy commutes, great food, and all four seasons.

Plus what do you really do on the daily basis anyway? It most likely consists of working, eating, working out, walking the dog, and having fun on the weekend. You can still do all of the things you enjoy in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and here’s why: the average rent is only $904 for a 1-bedroom. Additionally, the average square feet is approximately 822, meaning you could fit 10 full size beds, or 1000 cheesesteaks with salt, pepper, and ketchup into the space (Sorry i’m from Philly, so my mind instantly thinks of a cheesesteak and a corner store at random times). Tulsa is a city that sits on the Arkansas River, and is known for its art deco architecture. The city boasts artsy neighborhoods, such as Kendall Whittier and the Global District. Tulsa was also once the oil capital of the world, as it combines a culture of southern hospitality along with midwest charm. Pima Canyon Trail in Tucson, Arizona

The city I live in might be dry, but something else better not be dry. Thats what she said. One time, I was so f**king stupid that I touched a cactus and It stayed in my hand for two weekends. I had to give the cashier at burger king money with my big toe. Yeah, It was great being 72 years old. Tucson, Arizona is an amazing city to live in. Tucson is known for the University of Arizona, Forth Avenue, and a lively downtown. If you think that it’s just a college town with nothing to do but beer pong, then you’re right. This place f**king sucks. You probably won’t enjoy the beautiful hiking trails, like Tumamoc Hill. This trail offers a peaceful, walking and running environment on an expansive ecological reservation. But who wants peace in their life? not me. For interesting things to do, check out Tucson Botanical Gardens, San Xavier del Bac Mission, and Trail Dust Town. See, I told you I wasn’t the only thing that was dusty. You will see me in museums soon. According to rentcafe.com, the median rent in Milwaukee is $1355. But your boomer dad will still brag, that he brought his first house at 13. Major employers are headquartered in the city, such as Harley-Davidson, Johnson Controls, and Rockwell Automation. Things to do include North Point Lighthouse, Discovery World, and Milwaukee Breakwater Light. For food, check out Central Grand Cafe & Tappery, The Vanguard, and Honeypie Cafe.
